Our Mission

SRTX is powering a better future for textiles.

SRTX drives durability and sustainability of apparel products by building new materials and software to enable better textiles. We leverage smart, domestic manufacturing to support
the sustainable economic development of our local communities.

SRTX is best known for its first technology, Sheertex, a knit made from one of the world's strongest polymers which has disrupted hosiery through impossibly strong pantyhose. Named one of TIME’s Best Inventions, our customers get more wears from our tights than average - meaning fewer tights end up in landfills. Our mission towards achieving sustainability stretches beyond the environment: we are committed to paying our employees a living, equitable wage and offering an environment that promotes creativity and growth. Our factory and office share our headquarters, allowing constant collaboration and innovation that can be implemented immediately. We encourage our employees to learn quickly, have autonomy, and leave a direct and lasting impact on the company as we strive to become the leading brand in hosiery.

Sarah
McCormack
Senior Accounting Analyst
EN
FR

Introduce yourself

Hey! I’m Sarah, Sr. Accounting Analyst in the finance department. I guess you can call me a numbers gal. Anything that has to do with inventory at Sheertex is essentially my baby.

What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on at Sheertex?

It was for one of our recent campaigns for our warehouse sale. Not only did I take care of the accounting for the expenses that were incurred, but I also participated in the photoshoot as a model with other employees.

You left a big finance company to come work here—why?

At the big 4, you work for a bunch of different clients on projects, whereas here, you see how every decision you make has an impact. I definitely wanted a change of pace, not saying that Sheertex isn’t fast paced, but it’s just a different kind of pace. I wanted to be in an environment where there was room for me to implement new processes with a growing company, and where I’d be able to work on brand new projects from scratch. Also, everyone’s voice here carries weight, so everyone’s opinions are heard and ideas are implemented from all sources.

If you weren’t a “numbers gal”, what do you think you would be?

I’m really into film photography, it really captures the raw moment, as you take one picture, and you really capture the true moment.  I usually take these pictures of people, specifically friends and family, but on occasion I do like to take pictures of really unique food dishes.

What’s your hidden talent?

I love being outdoors and camping is a big passion of mine. Combining that passion with my love for cooking, my talent would be finding creative recipes to cook on a campfire.

Trupal Goti
Mechanical Engineer
EN
FR

Introduce yourself

I’m Trupal Goti, a Mechanical Engineer at Sheertex. I’ve been here for 2 years, and if there are any problems with the machinery on the production floor (where all our products are made), they come to me to fix it.

What made you join Sheertex?

I actually started here as a co-op student from the University of Waterloo. A year later, I was offered a full-time position. I guess you can say they made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.

Nice Godfather reference. So what was so good about the offer?

I love the work culture. There are always new challenges and projects to work on. The people here are really smart individuals and care about the work that they do. Also, the technology we use is really unique and advanced, which helps us continue to disrupt the hosiery industry.

Mechanical engineering—what made you want to get into that?

I grew up with a passion for the automobile industry, curious to learn how engines work and understand all the details that go into making cars. I started to build car engines, go-karts, buggies, etc., which led to my interest in all different types of machinery.

What do you like to do with your time outside of work?

I love to play badminton and cricket. Go-karting is also my passion—it lets my competitive side come out. I also really love reading biographies; the Abraham Lincoln one is one of my favorites.

What is the one song you LOVE, but are too embarrassed to share?

Umm, this question defeats the whole purpose of keeping it a secret… but OK, I’ll tell you. It’s a Bollywood song called Apna Time Aayega by Gully Boy. Trust me, check it out.

What’s your hidden talent?

So I’m pretty sure that nobody at Sheertex is aware of this, but I guess they will be now. I know how to polish diamonds for jewelry and can spot a fake diamond from a mile away. And yes, I will go jewelry shopping with you.

Ivana Simovic
Senior Manager, Brand Experience
EN
FR

Introduce yourself

I’m Ivana Simovic, and I work on the Creative Marketing team as Sheertex’s Senior Manager, Brand Experience. I’m the one always interrupting our town halls with “ummm, I have a question!”.

How long have you been at Sheertex and what do you do?

I actually just celebrated my 1 year work anniversary, so I guess you can say I’m a pretty big deal. My team works with the various brands within Sheertex and we figure out the most valuable way to communicate with our subscribers through email, SMS, or our referral program.

What about Sheertex made you want to work here?

I’ve worked at other high-growth fashion companies and really liked the hustle that Sheertex values. Also, having a woman as CEO is very inspirational; she’s such a fascinating person. I felt like I could learn so much from her on a personal and professional level and help me get to where I want to be in my goals.

OK, it’s your turn to sing at the karaoke bar. What song do you pick?

Karaoke is a very serious matter, one that I don’t take lightly. You need to feel out the vibe of the bar, the people, and make sure it’s a raucous crowd.  My most common picks are: Fishin’ in the Dark by Nitty Gritty Dirtband or Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus.

What advice would you give to people trying to break out into the marketing field?

Marketing is super broad, so if you’re just starting out, go into something general that lets you figure out what you want to focus on. Once you find your niche, find the community within that niche and trade ideas and inspirations. You need to understand why and what you were hired for and stay true to yourself, your passions, skill sets, and ideas. I am known to be the contrarian here, but that comes from years of experience and a lot of confidence, which has made me successful in my industry.

Edmund Lam
VP Brand & Creative
EN
FR

Introduce yourself

My name is Edmund Lam, the funny looking guy with the big glasses. Yup. That guy.

What do you do at Sheertex?

I’m VP of Brand Creative, which means I lead the creative team who come up with the campaigns, content, and design, as well as the brand strategy, how we express ourselves, how we represent our values, products etc.

What is the best advice you have to become a VP of Creative?

My advice would be to accept that there isn’t one way to do things, or to get to where you want to go. Find the thing that you’re about. You don’t even need to be amazing at it at first, just be the person that is most passionate about it, and then being amazing will come. Once you’re amazing at that thing that very few are good at, you’ll become unique, and then you have value to offer. And once you do, lots of options open up. My thing was websites, back in 2005 when very few graphic designers took web seriously. From there, I expanded on my expertise in digital marketing, and when marketing started seriously shifting towards digital around 2012, things started opening up for me.

What win are you most proud of?

I’ve done a bunch of projects I’m personally proud of, but I’d say the thing that stands out is not a project at all. I started in advertising in 2010, when there wasn’t much diversity in the Montreal agency space. I didn’t see any people of colour around me, nor ones that were Anglophone (most were Francophones), so I was at a disadvantage within my industry. With the world becoming more inclusive, hard work, and lots of luck, I’m proud that I was able to achieve my dream of being an ad agency Creative Director, 4 years later, despite the odds. And now, I try to use my little bit of influence to support others, offering advice, hiring / casting people of colour, of diverse backgrounds, body types, to paying it forward as much as I can. I don’t think I’m as good at it as I should be, but I’m trying.

What is your hidden talent?

It’s not hidden around Sheertex anymore as I won’t shut up about it, but I started making music again, I have a music project called YA NO. The music is pretty indie pop, with elements of electro and a hint of R&B.

Idriss Kone
Web Developer
EN
FR

Introduce yourself

My name is Idriss Kone. I’m a passionate, tall, web developer, who also just so happens to be the best fiscal player in the office.

How long have you been at Sheertex?

I’ve been at Sheertex for just over 3 months now. It passes by so fast, but it feels like I’ve been here for 3 years, especially due to the strong relationships I’ve made with the people here.

What’s the biggest win you’re proud of in your time here so far?

Launching the Sheertex Insider site so that people within the company are able to order their tights in a more efficient way, and it also takes the load off of our Office Specialist.

Tell me two truths and a lie about yourself.

My fav movie ever is Love Actually, I was born with 12 fingers, I was an extra on Game of Thrones.

People at the office say you’re the master of dad jokes, can you tell us one?

What do you call a fish wearing a bowtie? Sofishticated… HA!

David
Mamrowicz
Senior eCommerce Manager
EN
FR

Introduce yourself

Hi, I’m David, Senior eCommerce Manager. I’ve been at Sheertex for a year now and oh what a year it’s been! If you ever drop by the office, I’m hard to miss—big guy, with an equally big smile.

eCommerce Manager, what does that mean exactly?

The primary role of an eCommerce Manager is to ensure we’re offering the best possible online experience for our clients. I balance between making sure our websites look great while ensuring a fast, responsive and snappy customer journey. Since eCommerce is at the center of Sheertex’s business model, I make sure to encourage good vibes and a zen attitude among our teams: Stress down, productivity up!

What’s the best part of managing people at Sheertex?

We are very lucky to have amazing talent at Sheertex. Our recruitment team makes sure that our new recruits are incredibly competent, but above all are a great fit for our team. The way that everyone works and helps each other is great—and makes my job much easier! As a side note, I get to work with pretty much every team at Sheertex. To witness the various teams in action, all producing quality projects, campaigns, and products never fails to impress me.

What’s the biggest win you’re proud of in your time here so far?

I’ve been working in eCommerce for nearly 10 years and to experience the hypergrowth that Sheertex is going through is impressive; it’s not something that most companies will ever achieve. Also seeing Sheertex mature and evolve is very interesting—I am very proud to be part of this adventure.

What advice do you have for people trying to break into eCommerce?

Are you an avid online shopper? That’s the first step. When you shop online, you encounter many sales funnels, explore various websites, and recognize what features make a good online shopping experience. A successful customer journey is all about attention to detail. Once you make the decision to work in eCommerce, you need to figure out what you want to specialize in. Do you want to create beautiful websites or code them into existence? Do you have a keen and precise eye? Then merchandising could be an option. Love to help people? Customer support would be an amazing role for you. The possibilities are endless, and eCommerce is only just starting to grow across the world.

What would you consider to be your biggest passion?

I have two: traveling and cooking (and eating!). If I wasn’t an eCommerce manager, I would probably be running a professional kitchen. Every trip I take, every place I visit, I try to meet up with local cooks, chefs, and enthusiasts to learn new recipes, techniques, ingredients, and flavors. During my spare time, you might catch me in a cooking class or restaurant hopping.
